Terms of use

for the HausHelden and Bookjournal apps · Last updated: October 31, 2026 · This is a translation; the German version is legally binding.

1. Scope and provider

These terms apply to the use of the iOS apps HausHelden and Bookjournal (together “apps”) and their related services. The provider is Markant Software UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Horchheimer Höhe 45, 56076 Koblenz, Germany (“we”). See our legal notice for further details.

2. Services

The apps are currently free of charge. HausHelden lets you plan and share chores in a household. Bookjournal is a personal reading journal with an optional account for backup and sync.

We keep developing the apps and may change, add or remove features where this is reasonable for you. There is no entitlement to a particular availability of the server services; maintenance and outages may occur.

3. Account

HausHelden and sync in Bookjournal require an account. Your details must be accurate, and you must keep your sign-in credentials secret. An account is personal and may not be passed on to others. Minors may only use the apps with the consent of their parents or guardians.

4. Your content

Content you create (e.g. chores, reviews, quotes) remains yours. You grant us only the rights we need to store and transmit it and to display it to you and – in HausHelden – to the members of your household.

You are responsible for your content. It must not violate laws or the rights of others and must not be offensive, discriminatory or harassing. In HausHelden, all members of a household can see the shared content, so only share your invite code with people you trust.

5. Fair use

You may not misuse the apps or our servers, in particular by automated querying, overloading them, circumventing security measures or accessing other people’s data.

6. Third-party content

Bookjournal shows book data and covers from public sources (Google Books, Open Library). We do not guarantee that this data is correct or complete. Rights to covers and book descriptions belong to their respective owners.

7. Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act. In cases of slight negligence, we are only liable for breach of an essential contractual obligation – one whose fulfilment makes proper use of the apps possible in the first place and on whose observance you may regularly rely – and only for foreseeable, typical damage. Otherwise, liability is excluded.

Please back up important data regularly, for example using Bookjournal’s export feature.

8. Term and termination

You can stop using the apps at any time and delete your account directly in the respective app. We may suspend or delete an account in the event of serious or repeated violations of these terms. If we discontinue an app or a server service, we will announce this with reasonable notice so that you can export your data where the app supports it.

9. App Store

Downloading the apps is additionally subject to Apple’s App Store terms. Our contract for the use of the apps is solely with us, not with Apple.

10. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms with effect for the future if there is a valid reason (e.g. new features or changes in the law). We will inform you in the app in good time beforehand. If you do not object within six weeks, the new terms apply; we will point this out in the notice. If you object, you can delete your account.

11. Final provisions

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another country, the mandatory consumer protection rules of that country remain unaffected. Should any provision be invalid, the remaining provisions remain in effect.

We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
